Sean Gagen, Principal

Sean joined grassroots solutions in 2003 as a principal and functions as the firm’s “Director of Training.” Sean created Camp Wellstone, HRC’s Camp Equality, Camp Bill Richardson, Camp Carnahan and Camp Evan Bayh programs that recruited and trained over 17,000 individuals in 34 states around the county.  Overall, Sean’s training programs have won four Pollie Awards for organizing.

When Sean isn’t leading a campaign training, he can be found out in the field. In 2010, Sean directed voter contact programs that knocked on 920,634 targeted doors and made 544,570 volunteer calls in 11 states. In 2009, Sean worked with the Winter Soldier’s Coalition to help apply grasstops pressure to eight key U.S. senators in the successful campaign for healthcare reform.
Sean’s expertise is in campaign management. He has worked on campaigns for state and federal offices across the country, including Bill Richardson for Governor (D-NM), Russ Carnahan for Congress (D-MO) and Bill Bradley for President. Sean also has experience leading political organizations; he spent five years as Executive Director of Participation 2000, a progressive grassroots organization dedicated to empowering young people in politics that was co-chaired by U.S. Senator Bill Bradley (NJ), Governor Ann Richards (TX), and Governor Richard Celeste (OH); and served as Executive Director of the Missouri Democratic Party from 1997 to 1999.

Sean is also an Adjunct Professor at the Graduate School of Political Management at the George Washington University. He lives in Virginia with his wife and twin sons and is a card-carrying member of the Brad Paisley fan club.
