Sarah Hassell, Project Manager

Sarah joined grassroots solutions in late 2009 as a project manager. Sarah’s background lies in both issue advocacy and electoral campaigns, having worked for a variety of nonprofits in her 15-year career as a community organizer for organizations and candidates including YWCA, Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Senator Byron Dorgan, womenwinning, and Chrysalis, A Center for Women.

Sarah’s client and project work continues the theme of “cross training” she has built throughout her career. Most recently, she developed a legislative advocacy campaign for the Kansas Association of Homes and Services for the Aging; provided strategic guidance for Planned Parenthood of North Texas as they sought to engage their large supporter list more deeply in their advocacy and electoral work; managed a large scale canvass operation in five cities in Arkansas; and helped both the Senator Franken and Governor Dayton campaigns train thousands of recount volunteers across the state of Minnesota.

Sarah is also an accomplished bartender and server and believes strongly that every person should have to work in the service industry for at least six months at some point in their lives. She is afraid of boats and is a connoisseur of junk food.
