Joe Cowie, Principal

Joe is a principal at grassroots solutions and officially came on board in 2000 after working with co-founder Robert Richman on the Bill Bradley for President Campaign.

Joe specializes in helping organizations and campaigns plan and implement effective grassroots and advocacy strategies. He often works on the ground directly with clients and their volunteer supporters to organize grassroots community and legislative lobbying efforts. These programs have been staged at the local, statewide and national level for a wide range of nonprofit, government, political and corporate entities.

Recently Joe has spent time working for a national environmental advocacy organization, Human Rights Campaign, EMILY’s List, Ohio Democratic Party, and a number of independent expenditure canvass campaigns to boost voter turnout during the 2010 mid-term elections.

Joe did not grow up yearning to be a political organizer. In fact, after high school, he went to trade school to become a professional carpenter and, eventually, a ship fitter. After working in the house and boat building trades for a number of years and gaining a sore back, Joe went back to school and earned a degree in political science. After college, the discipline and structure of building houses and boats served Joe well as he spent around ten years running political campaigns throughout New England.
