Emma Olson, Organizer

Emma joined grassroots solutions as an organizer in January 2011 and specializes in electoral and community organizing. She currently travels the Midwest organizing for a large faith-based organization.

Emma first became active in the community when, as a senior in high school, she helped her local school pass an operating referendum. After this first introduction to organizing, Emma moved to the big city to attend the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. During her time at the U, she was elected student body president and worked on campus safety and college affordability, and learned to severely dislike college newspaper reporters.  Emma graduated with a degree in political science and business, because – you know – business is more practical.

Since graduating, Emma has been involved with several campaigns including organizing for the 2008 Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party’s Coordinated Campaign, and serving as field director for the Maureen Reed for Congress and 2010 DFL House Caucus Campaigns. Emma also worked on the recent gubernatorial recount in northern Minnesota.

In her spare time, Emma enjoys reading, attending plays and musicals, visiting family, helping her home town pass bonding referendums, and playing board games – especially Settlers of Catan. She hopes to someday learn how to cook and fly an airplane.
