11 Things We Learned in 2011

January: the month to reflect and resolve. Since New Year’s resolutions don’t always pan out, we’re opting to reflect on 2011 instead. From how to avoid a potential bear attack while canvassing to how to find a spouse while volunteering, the grassroots solutions team learned a thing or two last year. Here are our 11 most memorable learning moments from 2011. 1 Volunteering brings people closer together – so close, in fact, they might get married. 2 A NO vote in the fall can mean the same thing as a YES vote in the spring. And even with historically abysmal turnout rates and a totally confusing ballot question, it’s possible to win. 3 Organizing a bi-annual conference of 10,000 youth leaders in DC operates much like a national grassroots campaign does – except you have to contend with larger-than-life puppets and fire code inspections...
