Deepening Member Engagement to Achieve Policy Victories

With close to 5,000 consumer bankruptcy attorneys as members, the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA) is looking to engage their members on a deeper level.  Doing so will give the Association power that can be used to encourage elected officials to pass legislation that helps bankruptcy attorneys and their clients.  Increasing member interest and engagement is particularly important and timely today, as the current system tends to favor institutions that are much better funded than everyday citizens – despite the fact that consumer bankruptcies are at an all-time high.

grassroots solutions is working with NACBA to launch an Advocates Program focused on deepening member engagement in their federal public policy priorities.  Grassroots advocacy harnesses the powerful influence constituent pressure can have on elected officials, and puts a human face on complex or abstract issues.  NACBA members have direct relationships with their clients and understand how bankruptcy has burdened their clients’ lives.  NACBA members are in an ideal position to share those personal stories with decision-makers and make the case for better consumer bankruptcy protections.  The more NACBA members who are willing to contact elected officials in support of these legislative issues, the more likely it is that NACBA will achieve policy victories.

This summer, grassroots solutions completed a Grassroots Engagement Plan on NACBA’s behalf that details the scope of the Advocates Program and how NACBA can begin to build a blueprint for deeper member engagement.  To ensure that the Advocates Program is successful, grassroots solutions will assist NACBA this fall and early winter with the hiring of staff who will be solely dedicated to the implementation and execution of this program.
