grassroots solutions is in the movie business! Well, not so much …but we ARE organizing three screenings of the documentary film Acid Test: The Global Challenge of Ocean Acidification in the coastal states of Maine, South Carolina and Virginia. Acid Test, a film produced by Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), explores the startling phenomenon of ocean acidification, which may soon challenge marine life on a scale not seen for tens of millions of years.
grassroots solutions was brought on board by NRDC to organize and provide day-to-day management of these screening events. Our organizers are tapping into community connections in each state to identify scientific, political and economic experts who will discuss the rising problem of ocean acidification immediately following each screening. Panelists will represent a variety of perspectives – most notably, the economic impact that ocean acidification is having on fisherman in these coastal areas. We’re also applying our organizing skills to promoting the screenings to audiences who may not be familiar with these kinds of issues and to turn out community members who can bring their own viewpoints and experiences to the post-screening discussions.
If you can’t make it to one of the screenings in person, you’re still in luck! The film is available online here: http://www.nrdc.org/oceans/acidification/aboutthefilm.asp
